If Driving is So Risky, Why Do We Participate?
Today’s world is one in which driving has become all but necessary. Most people drive to work, grocery stores are far enough to necessitate driving, and travel can be enjoyable. Driving is a part of life. Nothing in this world is without risk, but many things are still worth doing.
The question to ask yourself is, “How much risk is acceptable?” You have many tools in your arsenal to reduce risk. The key is to evaluate and manage risk in order to avoid conflict.
Driving may be risky, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a great risk to your safety. You can choose to drive in a way that consistently reduces your risk on the highways, and that’s what we’ve been teaching you in this class. Legal and defensive driving put you well on your way to reducing risk, but you can also be proactive about minimizing driving risks. This is what we will cover in the remainder of this lesson.
