Mature Driver Information
It is common knowledge that young, inexperienced drivers have poor driving records, while middle-aged drivers have the best. Studies show that once a driver reaches the age of 60, their driving skills begin to deteriorate, especially when medical issues are present.
There are a number of programs available from both the Virginia Highway Safety Office and other public and private sources to help provide safe driving information and checklists to drivers over the age of 60.
Keep in mind that certain requirements must be met for mature drivers when it comes to license renewals. Drivers age 75 or older must appear in person at a DMV Customer Service Center to renew their driver’s license.
