Intersections: Lanes

Protected Left Lane

Some left lanes are said to be protected because they have several types of warning lights other left lane signals do not.

Vehicles turning left have a GREEN arrow.

All other traffic has a red light.  If you see a red arrow, stop.  You cannot turn left on a red arrow.

If you are in the intersection, and the light turns YELLOW, you must clear the intersection because the signal will soon turn red.

If you approach an intersection to make a left turn, and the left turn lane has a flashing yellow arrow signal, you may still proceed; however, oncoming traffic has a green light, and you must yield to those vehicles coming through the intersection before you can make your turn.
