Weave Lane

Sometimes there is dual-purpose lane used for both entrances and exits. This is a called a u2018weave lane.u2019 This type of lane allows vehicles to enter the freeway by driving parallel to it for a short distance before merging onto the main interstate. It also allows vehicles departing the interstate a safe space to ease into before leaving the freeway.

This is less confusing than it may seem, but there is the potential for conflict. Vehicles entering the freeway must yield to those ahead of them trying to leave the freeway.

Look at the image. See how the blue car above is trying to exit, while the white car is entering.u00a0 The one who arrives first, goes first; the other must yield.
